PTI skips PM briefing over Iran crisis, demands meeting with Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided not to attend the Prime Minister House briefing on the regional situation following the US-Israel attacks on Iran.

The decision came after a meeting of PTI’s political committee in Islamabad, where the party discussed both the domestic political climate and escalating regional tensions.

In a statement, PTI strongly condemned the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, calling them violations of international law. The party expressed sorrow over civilian casualties, including over 160 female students, and offered prayers for the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The statement also criticized state violence against peaceful protesters and called for transparent investigations.

The committee highlighted concerns about the tense situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. PTI said it would only attend the Prime Minister House briefing after arrangements are made for a meeting with party founder Imran Khan.

The statement emphasized the importance of judiciary supremacy and the protection of all constitutional rights for Imran Khan.

Earlier, The Islamabad High Court has issued notices to the concerned authorities after removing office objections to a plea seeking the immediate transfer of former prime minister Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for eye treatment.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro heard the application filed by his lawyer, Latif Khosa. The request was submitted as part of the appeals filed by the PTI founder and his wife against their conviction in the Toshakhana case. The court has scheduled the next hearing for March 10.

During the proceedings, the bench questioned why the main appeal should not be taken up along with the medical plea. Khosa told the court that his client’s health condition required urgent attention and requested that the matter be heard at the earliest. He also asked the court to allow him to meet his client.
