Shreya Ghoshal slams lip-syncing at concerts, calls it a ‘lazy act’

Renowned singer Shreya Ghoshal has openly criticized the practice of lip-syncing at concerts, calling it a “lazy act” and emphasizing the importance of hard work for artists.

Known for her melodious voice and ability to perform flawlessly without musical backing, Shreya highlighted the need for authenticity in live performances.

In a podcast with Raj Shamani, Shreya said, “That’s just a lazy act, you haven’t put in the hard work.

In my personal opinion, it’s not a good approach.” She elaborated that while audiences may enjoy performances however they like, she personally believes that an artist should feel uncomfortable if a live performance or recording fails to meet their own standards.

“You have to work hard every single day. Either you earn that crown or throne, or don’t take it lightly thinking you’ve already achieved it,” She added.

The discussion comes amid growing criticism of artists lip-syncing during live shows. Recently, when AP Dhillon appeared on The Great Indian Kapil Show, he was seen lip-syncing to his track With You, drawing backlash from viewers.

Shreya Ghoshal began her playback career at the age of 16 with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas, winning her first National Award for Best Female Playback Singer for Bairi Piya.

Over the years, she has sung in multiple languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam.

Some of her popular tracks include Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai, Dheere Jalna, Yeh Ishq Hai and the Bengali song Pherari Mon from Antaheen. Her recent works include Maatrubhumi from Battle of Galwan starring Salman Khan.

Apart from singing, Shreya is currently hosting Indian Idol Season 16 alongside Badshah and Vishal Dadlani. She has also announced her world tour, The Unstoppable, with scheduled performances across the UK, USA, Abu Dhabi, and India.
