India has denied reports that the United States is using its ports in a war against Iran. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs called these claims fake news.
The controversy began after One America News Network (OANN) aired an interview with former US military official and ex-Defense Secretary advisor Douglas Macgregor. He said that US bases were being destroyed and that the US was forced to rely on India’s naval bases.
The Indian Ministry’s fact-check account said these claims were “false and fabricated.” It warned the public not to spread such baseless information.
The remarks caused a political stir in India. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate questioned whether the government was allowing the US and Israel to use Indian naval bases in a war affecting innocent civilians.
On Thursday morning, Iran launched multiple missiles toward Israel. The Israeli military confirmed the attack. Israel’s emergency services reported that no casualties occurred. AFP journalists in Jerusalem heard explosions during the incident.
Earlier , Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the sinking of the frigate Dena, accusing the United States of committing “an atrocity at sea” and warning Washington that it will “bitterly regret” the dangerous precedent it has set.
Meanwhile, Iran’s armed forces denied targeting Turkiye, reaffirming their respect for the country’s sovereignty. This came after Turkiye’s Defence Ministry reported that a ballistic missile, launched from Iran and passing over Syria and Iraq toward Turkish airspace, was intercepted and destroyed by NATO air and missile defense systems in the eastern Mediterranean.
