Israel’s military has instructed residents living south of the Litani River in Lebanon to leave their homes, triggering a rapid wave of displacement across the region. The order came with a map marking the entire southern area in red and large arrows directing civilians to move north.
Over the past four days, nearly 84,000 people have fled their homes following the escalating tensions. Authorities had earlier warned residents in around 50 towns and villages in southern and eastern Lebanon—areas known for strong Hezbollah presence—to evacuate.
On Monday, an Israeli army spokesperson urged civilians to leave their homes immediately and move at least 1,000 meters away from their villages toward open areas for safety.
The United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon has raised alarm over the directive. The mission expressed deep concern about the demand for civilians to evacuate from areas where its peacekeepers operate, particularly the region south of the Litani River.
