Islamabad Red Zone sealed ahead of religious protests

Ahead of anticipated demonstrations by religious parties, authorities have closed several major routes leading to Islamabad’s Red Zone on Friday, police confirmed.

The capital’s police said Margalla Road and the route via Islamabad Marriott Hotel will remain open for access to the Red Zone. All other entry points, including Fazal-e-Haq Road toward China Chowk, will be closed. Citizens have been advised to use Jinnah Avenue as an alternative.

Traffic from Polyclinic to Lal Quarter Chowk will be redirected via Luqman Hakim Road, while Saddar Road has been suggested as an alternate route. Commuters traveling from G-6 to F-6 can use either the China Chowk underpass or Seventh Avenue leading to Jinnah Avenue. Those coming from Abpara Chowk toward Serena Hotel will follow a detour set by police.

For people arriving from Club Road or Bara Kahu, authorities recommended traveling through Kashmir Chowk, Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, and Margalla Road.

The advisory comes ahead of a protest march expected from G-6 to D-Chowk, with all roads leading to D-Chowk set to remain closed during the demonstration.

Citizens can contact police at helpline 15 or the Traffic Helpline at 1915 for guidance and updates. ITF FM 92.4 will broadcast live traffic updates throughout the day.
