Expert warns US–Israel–Iran conflict could trigger global economic crisis, Pakistan at risk

The ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran could have far-reaching consequences for the global economy, including Pakistan, renowned journalist and analyst Imtiaz Alam warned during a keynote address on “The USA–Israel–Iran War and World Peace.”

The event was organized by the Russian Centre for Science, Education and Culture and presided over by Professor Dr. Hasan Amir Shah.

Speaking to an audience of academics, diplomats, and intellectuals, Alam described the conflict as a “war of choice” for the United States and Israel, and a “war of survival” for Iran.

He noted that Iran’s retaliatory attacks on American bases in Gulf states were unanticipated by the aggressors and underscored the unpredictable nature of the conflict.

Alam cautioned that if the war were to be prolonged, it could trigger a severe energy crisis, disrupt global economies, and even push the United States into a financial crisis.

He also highlighted that a weakened Iran would inflict the gravest losses on Palestinians.

Alam further emphasized that Pakistan faces intense pressure to take a position on the conflict, which could exacerbate domestic energy shortages and economic instability.

He warned that the “dollar empire” faces serious strategic risks and that opposition to Zionism is among the key factors driving the attack on Iran.

Other speakers at the event echoed the gravity of the situation.

Prof Dr. Hasan Amir Shah noted that Iran could not be subdued as easily as other nations, while Kashif Younis Mehr questioned how countries can safeguard themselves in a war scenario.

Dr. Iftikhar Bukhari highlighted the long-lasting and dangerous consequences for the US, Israel, and Iran, noting that global public opinion, particularly in America, is largely against the war.

Moderator Prof Dr. Ashraf Nizami emphasized the humanitarian tragedy of wars and the inability of institutions like the United Nations to prevent conflicts due to geopolitical pressures.

Dr. Shahid Hasan, the host, reaffirmed the centre’s commitment to organizing intellectual and literary events addressing national and international issues.

The ceremony was attended by a distinguished audience including Professor Iftikhar Rasool Sheikh, Professor Mashkoor Siddiqui, Engineer Muhammad Asif, Khalid Farooqi, Ms. Naheed Khawar Mohal, Ms. Ayesha, Malik Farooq, Saima Mumtaz, Fakhra Sultana, Dr. Muhammad Nauman, Dr. Shoaib Bukhari, Dr. Talha Khan, Rana Muhammad Tariq, Muhammad Ishtiaq, Dr. Nadir Khan, Dr. Rizwana Khalil, Ms. Uzma, Rafiullah Khan, Riaz Ahmed, Khalid Ejaz Mufti, Abbas Rai, Muhammad Asif, Imtiaz-ul-Haq, Shahid Bukhari (Advocate), Ghalib Bandesha, Comrade Shahid Ali, Ejaz Ahmed, Dr. Bilal Afzal, Shahbaz Anwar Khan, Muhammad Maqsood, Javed Bhatti, Sheikh Zafar, Nasir Ali Khan, Abdul Mannan Wafa Tabassum, Dr. Anwar Gondal, Imran Saeed, Professor Sana Hasan, Rana Maqsood Akhtar, and Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal, among others, reflecting the event’s high-profile and cross-disciplinary nature.
