Pakistani actress and model Amna Ilyas shared an amusing yet thought provoking story about an unexpected fan interaction, highlighting the ongoing conversation around beauty standards and skin tone in South Asian culture.
During a candid interview, the actress recalled how a fan once approached her while she was casually enjoying a bun kebab.
What began as a compliment about her acting quickly turned into an unusual comment about her appearance in a television drama.
According to Amna, the fan first praised her performance but then remarked that in the drama she looked darker than usual.
The person even compared her to legendary Indian actress Smita Patil, a performer celebrated for her powerful roles and natural beauty in Indian parallel cinema.
Amna recounted that the fan said “Your skin tone is fine, but in the drama you looked like Smita Patil.” The comment left the actress both surprised and amused.

She laughed while recalling the moment, explaining that the fan seemed almost concerned while making the remark, as if pointing out something that needed correction.
At one point in the story, Amna joked that perhaps the lighting or makeup in the drama might have played a role, teasingly suggesting that the director might not have set the scene correctly.
The actress also revealed that the fan insisted her makeup looked perfectly fine in person but maintained that she appeared too dark on screen. According to Amna, such comments are no longer shocking for her.

“I’m immune to it now,” she said with a laugh, explaining that she has heard similar remarks many times throughout her career.
In situations like these, she usually responds politely and simply says “okay,” rather than engaging in debate.
Despite the humorous tone of the story, the conversation subtly touched on a broader issue the long-standing obsession with fair skin in South Asian societies.

Many actors and public figures have previously spoken about the pressure to conform to narrow beauty standards in the entertainment industry.
Amna Ilyas herself has often been praised for challenging those conventions. Known for her bold personality and confident presence both on and off screen, she has repeatedly encouraged audiences to embrace diverse definitions of beauty.
Through stories like this, the actress not only entertains her fans but also sheds light on the everyday comments that celebrities often navigate in public life.
