Former Mohammad Rizwan, who previously led the Pakistan national cricket team, said that only the selection committee can explain why certain players are left out of the squad. Speaking to the media in Lahore, Rizwan said questions regarding player exclusions should be directed to the selectors rather than the players themselves.
“Only the selection committee can explain why some players are not included in the team,” he said while responding to questions from journalists. Rizwan also highlighted that the current squad includes several players who already have experience playing in Bangladesh, which could help the team adapt to local conditions during the tour. “We have players who have previously played in Bangladesh, and that experience will help the team perform better,” he added.
The former skipper also spoke about the challenges of leading the national side. According to him, it is difficult to define whether captaining Pakistan is easy or difficult because the role comes with immense responsibility and pressure. Rizwan pointed out that public expectations from the national team are always very high. However, he said the team needs time and support if it is to deliver consistent and improved results.
“The expectations of the nation from the team are very high. If we want better results, we have to give the players time,” he said. He admitted that the team’s recent performances have not been up to the required standard and stressed that improvement is necessary in several areas. “Our performance has declined, and we need to work hard to improve it,” Rizwan acknowledged.
His comments come at a time when discussions around team selection and performance have intensified ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming international assignments.
