The Government of Punjab has increased the number of union councils across the province, raising the total from 4,015 to 6,577 as part of a revised local government structure. Authorities have also completed the demarcation of union councils within Lahore’s town municipal corporations.
According to official details, rural union councils now stand at 4,056, while urban councils have reached 2,514. Major cities including Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, and Multan will operate through Town Municipal Corporations under the new administrative setup.
Similarly, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar will also have Town Municipal Corporations. The number of municipal corporations has increased from 11 to 33, while municipal committees have risen from 182 to 220.
Officials have finalized the distribution of union councils in Lahore’s town corporations. Model Town will include 77 union councils, Shalimar 72, and Lahore City 69. Ravi Town Municipal Corporation will consist of 52 union councils.
Nishtar Town will have 40 union councils, Allama Iqbal Town 37, and Raiwind Town 32. Sadar Town will include 29 union councils, while Wagah Town will consist of 25 union councils.
