Aamir Khan stands firm: ‘Lahore 1947’ title unchanged

Actor-producer Aamir Khan has clarified that the title of his upcoming film remains Lahore 1947, dismissing recent speculation that it might be changed to Batwara 1947.

The chatter about a title change reportedly arose due to concerns over naming the film after a Pakistani city. However, Aamir stated firmly, “No, the title of our film has not changed. As of now, it is Lahore 1947, and that’s how I would like it to be.” He added that he is not inclined to yield to external pressure regarding the title.

The ongoing discussions about the title are unrelated to politics or audience sentiment. Director Suneel Darshan holds the rights to the name Lahore, and talks are underway to resolve the matter.

The film is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, who expressed excitement about reuniting with Aamir, noting their earlier collaboration in Andaz Apna Apna. He also highlighted his long-standing partnership with Sunny Deol, citing hits like Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak.

The movie will feature a stellar cast including Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, and Ali Fazal. Its storyline is inspired by Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai.

On the music front, AR Rahman is onboard as composer, with Javed Akhtar contributing lyrics. Rajkumar described it as a dream team, bringing together top talent for a project of this scale.
