Pakistan govt decides weekly additional holiday on Friday

Pakistan’s federal government has decided to observe the weekly additional holiday on Friday as part of austerity and energy-saving measures. The decision was made during a review meeting on austerity and energy conservation chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to the meeting’s statement, the government has agreed that the weekly additional holiday will now be observed on Fridays as part of broader steps aimed at reducing energy consumption and government expenditure.

Speaking during the meeting, the prime minister said the government was making every possible effort to keep the country’s economy stable despite challenging global conditions.

He added that a special committee led by Ishaq Dar has been established to oversee austerity and energy-saving measures.

The committee will review the implementation of these steps on a daily basis and submit regular reports.

The prime minister also directed that all austerity measures introduced by the government should undergo third-party auditing to ensure transparency and effectiveness.

According to the statement, the prime minister instructed all federal ministries and divisions to ensure the effective implementation of austerity and energy conservation policies.

He also directed ministries and institutions to send photographs of government vehicles that have been taken off the road under the austerity plan to the Cabinet Division.

The prime minister further said that each ministry would submit a report to the Prime Minister’s Office on measures taken to make the work-from-home system more effective.

During the briefing, officials informed the meeting that all federal ministries and divisions will submit daily and weekly reports to the committee regarding the progress of austerity measures.
