Allama Raja Nasir slams UN resolution 2817 as unfair, politically driven

Pakistani religious and political leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri has strongly criticised the adoption of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2817, saying the decision is unfair and politically driven.

In a post shared on his account on X, Allama Raja Nasir expressed deep disappointment over the resolution, which calls on Iran to end its strikes against neighbouring countries. He described the move as a misuse of the Security Council aimed at advancing the political interests of the United States and its allies.

He said the resolution ignores what he called the root causes of the conflict, including alleged military aggression by the United States and Israel. According to him, these actions resulted in the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the deaths of more than 1,300 civilians, and attacks on civilian facilities such as schools, hospitals, ambulances and heritage sites.

Allama Raja Nasir said the Security Council’s silence on these incidents creates a misleading impression that Iran acted without provocation. He added that such a narrative protects those responsible for the initial aggression while placing blame on Iran.

He further argued that the resolution reflects double standards and selective enforcement, which could damage the credibility of the Security Council and weaken its role in maintaining international peace and security.

From a legal perspective, he stated that the resolution attempts to deny Iran its right to self-defence under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. He maintained that Iran’s response was a reaction to an armed attack and criticised the council for ignoring other legal concerns, including sovereignty issues and foreign military bases in neighbouring countries.

Allama Raja Nasir concluded by rejecting the resolution entirely and called for a fair and balanced approach to resolving the conflict. He also expressed confidence that people around the world who value justice and international law would oppose what he described as an unjust decision.
