US President Donald Trump has given a stern warning to all the NATO countries about the Strait of Hormuz, saying that the future of the alliance could be at stake if all the countries do not come forward to ensure that this critical sea route remains open.
In a conversation with a British newspaper, Trump said that the US was holding talks with Iran but was not sure that they were ready to make a deal. Trump also said that the US was in touch with seven countries to ensure that they took an active role in protecting the Strait of Hormuz, which carried a huge percentage of the world’s oil.
Trump also said that Israel was also a part of this deal. Trump said that the future of NATO could also be at stake if all the countries did not come forward to play their role in protecting the Strait of Hormuz.
In this regard, Trump said that his meeting with Xi Jinping later this month could also be delayed. Trump said that the talks could only take place if all the countries that benefited from the shipping routes of the Strait of Hormuz also took active participation in the security of the Strait.
Earlier, Trump had also said that countries like South Korea, Japan, France, China, and the UK should also deploy their ships to the Strait of Hormuz. All the countries have shown their reluctance in this regard, including France, the UK, Japan, and Australia.
Experts say that Trump’s statement also highlights the frustration that the US feels over the Strait of Hormuz. They also say that the Strait of Hormuz plays a critical role in the security of the world.
