A special meeting, jointly chaired by Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, was held on Tuesday in which it was decided to launch a massive crackdown on people involved in money laundering and Hundi, it was reported.
It was decided that screws would be tightened around big businessmen and departments sending money abroad through illegal means.
It was also decided to form a joint working group comprising the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials, who would review the progress made on all related matters.
The meeting expressed the resolve that sending money abroad through money changers would also be streamlined.
A decision was taken to crackdown especially on big money launderers.
SBP governor, on the occasion, briefed about the system of transfer of money through banking channels.
FIA DG, SBP governor and secretary finance were also present on the occasion.
