Punjab issues high alert security plan for Eid-ul-Fitr across province

LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has released detailed security guidelines to ensure peace and safety across the province during Eid al-Fitr, expected to fall on March 20 or 21 depending on the moon sighting.

According to the department’s spokesperson, authorities have been directed to implement strict and comprehensive security arrangements in all cities. Special focus has been placed on Eid prayer gatherings, where a three-layer security system will be enforced to prevent any untoward incidents.

Officials have been instructed to maintain strict monitoring of all mosques and imambargahs, with additional security personnel deployed at sensitive locations. Entry to major places of worship will be limited to a single gate to ensure proper checking of visitors. Walk-through gates, CCTV cameras, and metal detectors will be used, and every individual entering prayer venues will undergo physical screening.

The statement added that special security pickets will be set up at important points, where personnel will remain equipped with protective gear. Lady police officers will also be deployed at worship places to facilitate and ensure the safety of women worshippers.

Security agencies, including the Special Branch and bomb disposal squads, have been directed to carry out necessary clearance operations before Eid prayers. Authorities will also conduct combing operations around mosques and imambargahs, while keeping a close watch on suspicious individuals, including those listed in the Fourth Schedule and banned organisations.

The Home Department has also stressed the importance of maintaining interfaith harmony during the festive period and has urged officials to stay in contact with religious leaders. Strict action has been ordered against hate speech and misuse of loudspeakers.

In addition to religious gatherings, security arrangements will be tightened at public places such as markets, Eid bazaars, hotels, restaurants, and recreational spots. Parking areas near prayer venues will be set up at a safe distance, while effective traffic management plans will be implemented to ensure smooth flow of vehicles.

Authorities have also imposed a ban on the display of weapons across Punjab during Eid. Security checkpoints will be established at key entry and exit points of cities and along interprovincial routes to monitor movement.

Emergency services, including Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, and the Health Department, have been placed on high alert to respond quickly to any situation. District administrations have been instructed to set up control rooms linked with the central control room to ensure timely coordination and information sharing.

Senior officials, including commissioners, deputy commissioners, and police chiefs, have been directed to strictly implement the security plan and take all necessary measures to ensure a peaceful Eid celebration across Punjab.
