PM orders digital wallets for Ramazan relief

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed that financial assistance under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) be disbursed through digital “Social Protection Wallets.” The move aims to improve transparency and efficiency in delivering welfare support.

Chairing a review meeting on the Ramazan Relief Package in Islamabad, the Prime Minister praised the efforts of relevant institutions for ensuring fair and transparent distribution of funds. He also highlighted the extensive awareness campaign, which leveraged print, electronic, and social media to reach eligible recipients.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive social protection, the Prime Minister instructed authorities to strengthen outreach and ensure timely disbursement to all remaining beneficiaries.

Officials informed the Prime Minister that 89 percent of the Ramazan Relief Package payments have already been distributed, with the remaining funds to be delivered promptly through the digital wallets.

Earlier, The holy month of Ramazan has officially started across Pakistan, bringing a spiritual atmosphere to cities and towns as Muslims prepare for their first fast. Markets remained busy late into the night, with people buying food items and essentials for sehri and iftar, while mosques welcomed worshippers for Taraweeh prayers.

The government has announced special arrangements to facilitate citizens during the holy month. The authorities said there will be no electricity load-shedding during sehri and iftar hours anywhere in the country. The gas supply is also expected to remain available from 3:00am until 10:30pm to ensure households can prepare meals without difficulty.
