Pakistani cinema returns this Eid with 3 blockbusters set to revive silver screens

Pakistani cinemas are gearing up for a blockbuster Eid al-Fitr 2026 as three major local films Aag Lage Basti Mein, Delhi Gate, and Bulla prepare to hit screens, promising to revive the excitement of movie-going for audiences nationwide.

Once at the peak of its glory, Pakistan’s film industry used to release over 100 films annually. However, with the industry’s decline, annual releases dropped drastically, often limited to just a handful of films during festive occasions like Eid.

This year, alongside the three major Pakistani releases, audiences will also enjoy international offerings, including Indonesian films Alice Robin, Desim, and Bone Lake, Hollywood titles Ready and Not Too and Hell Mary, as well as the Indian Punjabi comedy Viaah Kartar Da.

All films will be screened in multiplexes across Pakistan, including Lahore, making Eid al-Fitr 2026 an important event for the local cinema industry.

Aag Lage Basti Mein:

Produced by renowned actor, host, and producer Fahad Mustafa, Aag Lage Basti Mein stars Fahad Mustafa and leading actress Mahira Khan in central roles, marking their first collaboration on the silver screen since Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad.

The film also features comedian and host Tabish Hashmi, making his debut in a leading cinematic role, along with veteran actor Javed Sheikh. Directed by Bilal Atif Khan, the film blends comedy, action, and romance and is set for international release in addition to Pakistan.

The story follows Barkat (Fahad Mustafa) and his wife Almas (Mahira Khan), exploring their marital relationship amid domestic tensions and criminal misadventures. Barkat is portrayed as a man of unwavering honesty, willing to face anything but never compromise his principles, while Almas is shown as ambitious, seeking wealth and attempting to sway her husband toward a questionable path.

Speaking about the project, Fahad Mustafa said, “This film has been made from the heart. I hope audiences enjoy it. I had long wanted to work with Tabish Hashmi, and he has done a fantastic job. The title Aag Lage Basti Mein symbolizes the small fires everyone faces in life. We all try to put out our own fires, which is what the story represents.”

Mahira Khan added, “Aag Lage Basti Mein has been made with love, passion, and fun. It’s a perfect gift for Eid. The story and characters are unique, and it’s a project very close to my heart.”

Delhi Gate:

Directed by Nadeem Cheema, who is known for delivering high-quality films, Delhi Gate portrays the culture, traditions, and daily life of Lahore in an engaging manner. Written by the late Mohammad Kamal Pasha, the film combines romance, action, comedy, and emotional drama.

The cast features seasoned actors Javed Sheikh, Shamaun Abbasi, Shafqat Cheema, Mohammad Qavi Khan, Khalid Butt, and Rashid Mahmood, alongside new talents Yasir Khan, Suzain Fatima, and Roma Michael. Music is composed by young director Sanwal Khan.

Bulla:

The Punjabi film Bulla stars veteran actor Shan Shahid in the lead role, directed by Shoaib Khan with a story penned by renowned writer Nasir Adeeb. The ensemble cast includes Mona Lisa, Naima Butt, Adnan Butt, Ali Josh, Mahem Mirza, and Asif Khan. Notably, the film introduces Naima Butt to the silver screen.

Bulla tells the story of a hero who stands against injustice and speaks out against oppression. Set against a Punjabi cultural and spiritual backdrop, the film explores themes of resistance, courage, and the eternal struggle between right and wrong.

With these releases, Eid al-Fitr 2026 promises not only entertaining and diverse cinematic experiences but also a revival of energy in Pakistan’s film industry, drawing audiences back to theaters after years of limited releases.
