Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the establishment of a comprehensive artificial intelligence-based governance system, marking what officials describe as a first-of-its-kind initiative in the province.
Under the plan, the Chief Minister’s Office will be transformed into an “AI Office of CM,” making it the first office in Pakistan to be fully operated through artificial intelligence and advanced digital systems.
The decision was finalised during a high-level meeting chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, where the Chief Minister’s AI Advisor Ali Dar briefed participants on progress related to the AI Vision 2029 and the “Office of AI Punjab” projects.
According to the briefing, a modern AI Delivery Unit will be established to integrate all provincial departments into a central AI ecosystem, enabling data-driven decision-making, real-time public service delivery, and enhanced monitoring mechanisms.
Officials said the initiative aims to improve governance through data analytics, smart dashboards, and a central command and control system, which will increase both the speed and transparency of public services.
The plan also includes the launch of AI academies and physical training systems to equip youth with modern technological skills, creating new employment opportunities. Technology-driven solutions will be implemented across key sectors including health, education, agriculture, policing, and urban management.
The meeting was informed that work has begun on a comprehensive AI governance policy for Punjab on the instructions of the chief minister. The project will be implemented with the support of international partners, including the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, and other global stakeholders.
Officials further noted that initiatives such as virtual police stations and Safe City systems are already being strengthened using modern technologies to enhance the protection of women and children.
Speaking on the occasion, Maryam Aurangzeb said the chief minister’s AI vision would usher in a new era of public service delivery, not only in Pakistan but across the region, adding that the initiative reflects a shift toward modern, technology-driven governance.
