TEHRAN: Iran’s naval commander, Shahram Irani, has issued a stern warning to the United States, saying that American aircraft carrier groups, including the USS Abraham Lincoln, are under continuous surveillance by the Iranian Navy. According to Irani, once any US naval vessel enters the range of Iran’s missiles, it could become a legitimate target.
Speaking in a statement carried by Iranian media, Commander Irani emphasized that Iranian forces are closely monitoring the movements of the US fleet in the region. “Our eyes are on the US Navy. Should any of their ships come within the operational range of our missiles, action can be taken immediately,” he said, underscoring Tehran’s readiness to defend its waters.
The comments come amid heightened tensions in the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway critical to global oil shipments. The Iranian Navy also noted that after reports of cruise missile tests along the coast, US aircraft carriers have reportedly shifted positions, signaling caution in response to Tehran’s capabilities.
This development reflects the ongoing strategic standoff between the two nations, with Iran repeatedly demonstrating its missile reach and naval alertness. Experts say such warnings are part of Iran’s broader effort to assert deterrence, sending a clear message to foreign naval forces operating near its territorial waters.
The situation has raised global concerns about maritime security in the region, as any miscalculation could escalate into a direct confrontation. Analysts stress that monitoring, diplomacy, and clear communication are key to avoiding unintended escalation while maintaining freedom of navigation in the Gulf.
Commander Irani’s statement marks the latest in a series of warnings from Tehran, highlighting the Iranian Navy’s commitment to defending national interests and maintaining vigilance over strategic maritime zones.
