The government has granted in-principle approval for the establishment of the Anti-Narcotics Force Foundation (ANF Foundation) aimed at improving the welfare of personnel and strengthening the country’s fight against drug trafficking.
Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Mohsin Naqvi announced the decision during a visit to the headquarters of the Anti-Narcotics Force in Islamabad on Thursday, where he was received by Director General Major General Abdul Moeed.
During the visit, the minister inspected the under-construction National Counter Narcotics Coordination Centre and chaired a special meeting to review the force’s performance.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, officials briefed him that the conviction rate in narcotics-related cases had reached 82 percent, reflecting improved enforcement and prosecution.
The meeting also approved, in principle, the establishment of the ANF foundation to support employees’ welfare, including assistance for families and personnel facing hardships.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohsin Naqvi directed authorities to further strengthen awareness campaigns against drug use in educational institutions.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasised that a comprehensive crackdown would continue at all levels to protect future generations from the menace of narcotics.
The ANF officials briefed the minister that 22 domestic and nine international drug trafficking groups had been dismantled as part of ongoing operations.
Despite limited resources, the ANF has carried out effective actions against narcotics networks, the briefing added.
Mohsin Naqvi praised the force for its performance and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting its personnel. Prayers were also offered for six ANF officials who were recently martyred in the line of duty.
