Another ship carrying transshipment cargo docks at Gwadar Port

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has said that Gwadar Port is emerging as a secure and strategic maritime hub, as global shipping lines seek safer alternatives to traditional Gulf routes amid shifting regional dynamics, it was reported on Monday.

He expressed these views when a specialized vessel, M/V HMO LEADER (IMO 9169811), successfully berthed at the port, carrying 35 pieces of general transshipment cargo, a milestone reflecting growing international interest in Pakistan’s southwestern coastline.

Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said that ongoing regional tensions have disrupted established shipping corridors, creating opportunities for Gwadar to position itself as a reliable transit point.

He highlighted that more international shipping lines are approaching the port for cargo storage and onward movement, supported by incentives such as free transshipment cargo storage.

With a capacity of 16,000 TEUs for containerized cargo and 90,000 square meters for general cargo storage, Gwadar Port, along with its integrated free zone, is steadily advancing toward becoming a key regional trade hub, boosting Pakistan’s blue economy and enhancing maritime connectivity.
