Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi appealed directly to US President Donald Trump on Monday to stop the war with Iran, saying only Washington could bring it to an end. Speaking at the Egypt Energy Show in Cairo, Sisi warned that fears of oil prices soaring above $200 a barrel were “not exaggerated.”
“I tell President Trump: nobody can stop the war in our region in the Gulf but you,” Sisi said. He cautioned that attacks on energy facilities could trigger severe global repercussions, including supply shortages and surging fuel costs. He also highlighted risks to food security, noting that disruptions to fertilizer exports could destabilize fragile economies.
Egypt has condemned Iranian strikes on Gulf states and pushed for diplomatic efforts to prevent a wider regional conflict. Sisi credited Trump with helping end the Gaza war last year, when a ceasefire was signed in Sharm el‑Sheikh.
Earlier, Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary‑General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi condemned Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on energy infrastructure, calling them violations of international law and a direct threat to global energy security. The strait previously carried about 20% of global oil supplies, now choked off by the conflict.
