The Election Commission of Sindh has announced that by-elections for 45 vacant local government seats across 16 districts will be held on May 17. The move comes as part of efforts to fill key positions in the province’s local bodies.
The by-elections will take place in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Tando Allahyar, Jamshoro, Matiari, Dadu, Nowshera Feroze, Sanghar, Ghotki, Khairpur, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Jacobabad, Kashmore, and Shikarpur, the Election Commission said.
According to the schedule, Returning Officers will issue public notices on April 2. Nomination papers can be submitted by candidates from April 6 to April 8, while scrutiny of the nominations will take place from April 13 to 15. The preliminary list of candidates will be released on April 16.
Candidates will have until April 30 to withdraw their nominations, and the final list along with election symbols will be announced on May 4. Polling for all 45 seats is scheduled to run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on May 17 without interruption.
The Election Commission has urged candidates and voters to follow all election guidelines to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
