Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to the Federation, Ministry of National Food Security and Ministry of Interior against the establishment of Islamabad Food Authority.
IHC Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro sought response on petition of citizen Muhammad Fayyaz which told the court that establishment of Islamabad Food Authority and formation of its board should be declared null and void.
According to the petitioner, the formation of the authority and the board is a violation of the Food Safety Act, as the food authority was established without a gazette notification and the approval of the federal cabinet.
According to the lawyer, under the Supreme Court decision, the federal government is the Prime Minister and the cabinet. He told the court that the Auditor General of Pakistan has also raised objections to the expenditure without the approval of the federal cabinet.
The petitioner demanded of the IHC to declare the establishment of the Islamabad Food Authority and all key appointments as null and void.
After hearing the arguments of the petitioner, IHC observed that the submissions made by the petitioner’s lawyer were worthy of consideration, therefore the court sought reply from the Federation, Ministry of National Food Security and Ministry of Interior against the establishment of Islamabad Food Authority.
