The Pakistan Navy and the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLA Navy) have successfully concluded their joint maritime exercise “Sea Guardian,” aimed at strengthening naval cooperation and improving operational coordination in the Arabian Sea.
According to official sources, the exercise was conducted over several days, beginning with a port phase in Karachi followed by a sea phase in the North Arabian Sea. The port phase included the arrival of a PLA Navy vessel at Karachi’s naval base, where both sides engaged in professional exchanges, mutual visits to naval installations, and discussions through a Young Officers Seminar.
During the subsequent sea phase, both navies conducted a series of coordinated operations. These included joint patrols, live-fire gunnery exercises, and submarine-related drills involving Pakistan Navy assets. The exercises were designed to enhance interoperability, tactical understanding, and readiness in real operational environments.
Officials said the joint drills reflect the growing maritime partnership between Pakistan and China, with a shared focus on maintaining security and stability in regional waters. The exercise also provided an opportunity for both navies to exchange expertise, strengthen communication, and refine joint response capabilities.
Sea Guardian is part of ongoing efforts by both countries to expand defense cooperation and improve coordination in safeguarding sea lanes, which are critical for trade and regional connectivity. The successful completion of the exercise underscores continued collaboration between the two navies in addressing common maritime challenges.
