Actress and public figure Iffat Omar has strongly reacted to anchorperson Iqrar ul Hassan’s comments regarding the long-running legal dispute between Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi, calling his remarks one-sided and insensitive.
The reaction comes after a court ruling in the defamation case filed by Ali Zafar against Meesha Shafi. The case, which began in 2018 following Meesha Shafi’s allegations of harassment, concluded after several years of legal proceedings. The court ruled in favor of Ali Zafar, declaring him innocent in the defamation matter and imposing a fine on Meesha Shafi.
Following the verdict, several public figures expressed their opinions on social media. Iqrar ul Hassan shared a post commenting on the decision, in which he congratulated Ali Zafar and criticized false allegations, stating that such claims can undermine genuine cases of harassment. His remarks sparked debate online, with many agreeing and others raising concerns about his tone and perspective.
Iffat Omar, however, disagreed with his stance. She publicly responded by condemning what she described as a biased and harsh viewpoint. She emphasized that public commentary on sensitive legal matters should be more balanced and mindful of the broader social implications, particularly in cases involving allegations of harassment.
Iffat Omar has previously expressed support for Meesha Shafi and has been vocal about what she sees as unfair treatment in public discourse surrounding the case. Her latest comments further highlight the divide in public opinion regarding the verdict and the wider discussion on accountability, legal outcomes, and social narratives.
The case itself has remained one of the most high-profile and controversial legal battles in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, drawing widespread attention from celebrities, media personalities, and the general public over the past eight years.
