PTI leaders bail extended; Aleema Khan calls jail protest

The Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court has extended the interim bail of several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Aleema Khan, in cases related to the May 9 incidents, with the new date set for May 7.

During the proceedings, the court heard multiple bail applications and approved exemption requests for some accused due to health and travel constraints. It also directed the prosecution to submit relevant records ahead of the next hearing.

The cases are linked to allegations stemming from the May 9 unrest, which involved multiple political figures facing legal proceedings.

Following the court’s decision, Aleema Khan addressed the media and urged supporters to stage demonstrations outside Adiala Jail, calling for increased public pressure for the release of the PTI founder. She emphasized continued political mobilization and encouraged party workers from across different regions to participate in the planned protest.

She further stated that the party remains committed to its stance and intends to continue its campaign until its demands are addressed.

Earlier, Meetings with jailed Imran Khan remained suspended on Thursday as authorities once again prevented PTI leaders from entering Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

PTI leaders arrived during the scheduled visiting hours. They had submitted a list of names in advance for a meeting. However, they were stopped at a security checkpoint and denied access.

Party members said they informed officials that their names were included on the approved list. They also claimed that court orders allowed regular meetings. Despite this, they were not permitted to proceed further.

PTI representatives remained outside the jail for several hours. They staged a protest after being denied entry. Later, they left without meeting the party founder.
