Pakistan and Turkiye have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen judicial cooperation.
The MoU was signed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi and President of the Turkish Constitutional Court Kadir Ozkaya at a ceremony held in Islamabad on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Justice of Pakistan said the MoU marks a significant step forward for our respective judiciaries. He emphasized that it is not a simple document of cooperation between the two countries, it represents the shared vision and resolve to strengthen constitutional governance, uphold the rule of law, ensure judicial independence and protect fundamental rights.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan said the MoU provides a forward looking framework for collaboration between the two judiciaries. He said it emphasizes on exchange of judicial knowledge and best practices, promotion of comparative constitutional jurisprudence, the strengthening of institutional linkages and most importantly the advancement of capacity building through joint programs, research and judicial exchanges.
In his remarks on the occasion, President of the Turkish Constitutional Court, Kadir Ozkaya noted that relationship between Pakistan and Turkiye extends far beyond ordinary diplomacy. He said the peoples of both the countries have always stood by each other.
Kadir Ozkaya said the MoU serves to strengthen and renew the cooperation that has already been established between our institutions. He admired the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s unwavering dedication to upholding constitutional principles and rule of law. He expressed the confidence that cooperation between our institutions would be highly effective and yield beneficial outcomes.
