Govt assures adequate fuel stocks, orders crackdown on hoarding

A meeting of the Petroleum Monitoring Committee, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, reviewed the nationwide supply and demand of petroleum products and expressed satisfaction over current reserves, the Ministry of Finance said on Monday.

According to officials, the country has ample stocks of petrol and diesel, with diesel reserves sufficient for approximately 25 days, while crude oil reserves can meet demand for around 12 days. The availability of petrol is being maintained in line with current consumption patterns, and imports of petroleum products are continuing as per schedule.

The meeting also decided to take strict action against hoarding and the creation of artificial shortages. Authorities were directed to further tighten monitoring mechanisms at petrol pumps across the country.

In a move to enhance oversight, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) was instructed to activate its digital dashboard to improve real-time monitoring. Officials noted that data reporting from petrol pumps remains below expectations and directed oil companies, including Pakistan State Oil, to improve compliance.

The government also ordered intensified monitoring of more than 12,000 petrol pumps nationwide, warning of action against violators. Joint inspection teams, comprising the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other agencies, will conduct checks in Islamabad.

In addition to petroleum, the committee reviewed the supply and distribution of gas, emphasizing the need for a balanced allocation between domestic consumers and the power sector.

Reaffirming its commitment to consumer protection, the government said it would ensure transparency in the system and maintain an uninterrupted supply of petroleum products across the country.
