PTI weighs protest strategy as divisions emerge in parliamentary committee meeting

The internal deliberations of a parliamentary committee meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House have come to light, revealing differences within the party over its upcoming protest plans.

According to sources, the meeting was attended by regional presidents along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. The agenda focused on preparations for a rally and protest scheduled at Liaquat Bagh on April 9.

Sources said that party officials from Punjab, including members of the National Assembly, expressed reluctance to participate in public protests. Following the lack of response from the Punjab leadership, the responsibility for organising the protest was largely shifted to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The development reportedly caused hesitation within the KP leadership, with Chief Minister Sohail Afridi expressing concerns about taking sole responsibility for the protest. During the meeting, he also discussed a “Plan B” in case the original strategy could not be executed.

As part of the alternative plan, sources said preparations were initiated to hold a rally near Mardan, before the Attock Bridge, instead of proceeding directly to Rawalpindi.

The party leadership was also said to be aiming to mobilise workers ahead of May 9; however, sources indicated that initial efforts to energise supporters had not yielded the desired results.

No official statement has been issued by the party regarding the reported discussions.
