The federal government has banned installation of single-phase meters in five-marla houses, it was reported on Tuesday.
In this regard, National Electric Power and Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has issued notification to amend new connection rules.
A single-phase meter will be installed on a two-marla double-story house with a minimum load of three kilowatts.
A connection will be given for a single-story house up to two marla at a load of 1.5 kilowatts.
A demand notice for a three-phase meter will be given in case of land exceeding two marlas.
The implementation of new connection rules has started in all companies including LESCO.
Earlier, domestic consumers were allowed to install smuggled phase meters on one or two kilowatts loads.
With the approval of the amendments, consumers will now have to install three-phase meters instead of single ones.
By installing three-phase meters, consumers will not be eligible for the protected category.
When the protected category eligibility ended, consumers will have to pay bills according to the tariff.
