Saudi Arabia has claimed that it intercepted and destroyed 18 attack drones and seven ballistic missiles within the past 24 hours, saying the projectiles were aimed at the Kingdom’s Eastern Province.
According to the Saudi Ministry of Defense, air defense systems successfully shot down a series of drones and missiles launched toward sensitive areas. The ministry said most of the threats were targeting the Eastern Province.
The Saudi Press Agency quoted military spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki as saying that 18 drones were intercepted and destroyed in recent hours. He added that seven ballistic missiles fired toward the same region were also successfully stopped before reaching their targets.
Officials said debris from the intercepted missiles fell near energy facilities in the area. Authorities are currently assessing the situation to determine whether any damage was caused.
In an earlier statement, the ministry also reported intercepting four ballistic missiles and destroying two additional drones aimed at the same province.
Saudi officials described the interceptions as part of ongoing efforts to protect civilian areas and vital installations from aerial threats.
