Crackdown on property tax defaulters intensifies across Lahore after April 10

The city is tightening the noose around property tax defaulters, with authorities warning of strict measures against major evaders after April 10, it was reported on Wednesday.

Orders have been issued to seal 31,000 commercial properties whose owners failed to pay taxes despite receiving final notices. The cumulative dues from these defaulters exceed Rs50 crore.

While commercial properties are being sealed, residential property tax defaulters are also facing confiscation notices.

Director Excise Ahmed Saeed stated that all inspectors and enforcement officers have been instructed to implement the sealing orders immediately after the deadline, leaving no room for delay.

Region B has reportedly collected Rs7 billion in property taxes over the first nine months of the current fiscal year, yet still falls short of its Rs9 billion target.

Across Punjab, property tax collections have crossed Rs22 billion, leaving a gap that authorities are determined to close. Officials warned that inspectors and enforcement officers who fail to meet targets could be removed from their positions.

The crackdown reflects a broader effort to enforce compliance and bolster provincial revenue through stricter monitoring and rigorous action against defaulters.

The authorities’ zero-tolerance approach signals that tax evasion will no longer be tolerated, and significant financial obligations will be collected promptly.
