KARACHI: The Sindh Health Department has confirmed the first dengue-related death of the year in Karachi, marking a concerning start to the seasonal spread of the mosquito-borne disease.
According to a spokesperson for the health department, the fatality was reported from Karachi’s East District. Officials expressed concern as dengue cases continue to emerge in different parts of the province with the changing weather conditions.
The spokesperson added that a total of 198 dengue cases have been recorded across Sindh so far this year. Out of these, 163 cases have been reported from Karachi alone, highlighting the city as the most affected area.
He further stated that 24 cases have been reported from the Hyderabad division, while Mirpurkhas division has recorded 8 cases. In Sukkur division, 3 dengue cases have so far been confirmed.
Health authorities say surveillance and preventive measures are being strengthened, particularly in high-risk urban areas, to control the spread of the virus. Citizens have also been advised to eliminate stagnant water around homes, use mosquito repellents, and take precautions to avoid bites, especially during dawn and dusk.
