Govt borrows Rs79,882 billion in loan by February 2026

A monthly increase by Rs696 billion was recorded in the domestic debt borrowed by the federal government by February 2026.

According to a report released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Thursday, the domestic loans borrowed by the government increased by Rs5,657 billion in one year.

Resultantly, domestic loans reached Rs56,679 billion by February, 2026.

However, as per the report, foreign loans borrowed by the government decreased by Rs141 billion per month by February 2026, while foreign loans went up by Rs1189 billion in one year so much so that they reached Rs23,203 billion by February 2026.

Overall loans, domestic and foreign, borrowed by the government by February 2026 witnessed a monthly increase by Rs555 billion, while they soared by Rs 6846 billion in one year.

Resultantly, overall loans borrowed by the government reached Rs79,882 billion by February 2026.
