Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday received a telephone call from his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni during which they discussed the fragile Middle East ceasefire.
During the conversation, the Italian prime minister appreciated Pakistan’s successful diplomatic efforts for the US-Iran ceasefire and resumption of dialogue. She also felicitated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on hosting the forthcoming peace negotiations between the US and Iran in Islamabad.
While underscoring the genuine and sincere desire of Pakistan for peace and stability in the region, PM Shehbaz Sharif welcomed a joint statement issued by key European and international leaders, including Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, in support of Pakistan’s peace efforts.
The two leaders also expressed their serious concern over the ongoing hostilities in Lebanon.
Both sides agreed on the need for coordinated international efforts to prevent further escalation and pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.
French FM rings Ishaq Dar
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Friday received a phone call from Foreign Minister of France Jean-Noël Barrot.
FM Barrot congratulated Pakistan on its role in securing the initial ceasefire agreement and expressed support for Pakistan’s continued efforts toward a diplomatic pathway for lasting peace and stability in the region.
Both leaders expressed concern over serious ceasefire violations made in Lebanon and underscored the importance of full implementation and respect for the ceasefire.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing economic and trade cooperation, and agreed to stay in touch.
