Ahsan Iqbal demands full ceasefire before talks move forward

Ahsan Iqbal, Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, has called for expanding the scope of ongoing ceasefire negotiations between Iran and the United States. He stressed that regional stability cannot be achieved without including all key stakeholders.

In an interview with the BBC, he said that Lebanon must also be included in the talks. According to him, limiting negotiations to only a few parties would reduce the chances of achieving lasting peace in the region.

Ahsan Iqbal clearly stated that Pakistan’s position is based on the principle of a “complete ceasefire.” He emphasized that hostilities must fully stop during the negotiation phase to create an environment of trust and meaningful dialogue.

He expressed concern over the ongoing violence in parts of the region. He said it is not acceptable that one area continues to suffer from conflict while diplomatic discussions are taking place elsewhere. He added that such a situation weakens the credibility of peace efforts.

Referring to Israel, the minister urged it to act responsibly at this critical moment. He warned against any attempts to exploit the situation for strategic gains before negotiations move forward. He also expressed hope that Israel would not sabotage what he described as a historic opportunity for peace.

The minister highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating dialogue. He said Pakistan will continue to make serious efforts to bring all sides closer to an agreement. He noted that diplomatic engagement remains the only viable path toward reducing tensions.
