Tensions between global powers have intensified after US media reports claimed that China is preparing to supply advanced air defence systems to Iran — a claim strongly denied by Beijing.
According to a report by CNN, citing US intelligence assessments, China is allegedly working on delivering new batches of air defence equipment, including man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems, to Iran in the coming weeks. The report further suggested that some of the transfers could take place through third countries, raising concerns in Washington over regional stability and arms proliferation.
The claims come at a time when geopolitical tensions in the Middle East remain high, with Iran facing growing scrutiny over its military capabilities and diplomatic positioning.
However, China has firmly rejected the allegations. The Chinese Embassy in Washington stated that Beijing has never supplied weapons to any party involved in ongoing conflicts and described the reports as “misleading and unfounded.”
In its response, the embassy emphasized that China acts as a responsible global power and adheres strictly to its international obligations. It urged the United States to avoid what it called “baseless accusations and politically motivated narratives.”
“We hope relevant parties will focus on de-escalation rather than spreading misinformation or creating unnecessary tensions,” the embassy said in a statement, indirectly criticizing the tone of the US media report.
The exchange highlights the growing mistrust between Beijing and Washington, particularly on issues involving the Middle East. Analysts say such claims — whether verified or disputed — often add another layer of complexity to already fragile diplomatic relations.
Meanwhile, Iran continues to navigate a delicate diplomatic environment. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has previously acknowledged that the country is engaging in talks under conditions of “deep mistrust,” reflecting ongoing uncertainty in its foreign relations.
The latest allegations and denials underscore how quickly information — and misinformation — can escalate tensions between major global powers. While no independent confirmation of the reported arms transfer has emerged, the story has already fueled debate in diplomatic and security circles.
For now, Beijing’s firm rejection leaves the claims unresolved, but the broader geopolitical friction surrounding Iran, China, and the United States shows little sign of easing anytime soon.
