Pakistan’s security agencies have arrested three individuals accused of spying for India’s intelligence agency, RAW, in a significant, successful counter-intelligence operation, it was reported on Monday.
According to the sources, the suspects belong to Narowal, Bahawalpur and the Neelum district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
As per the information, all three individuals were involved in gathering sensitive information and sharing it with their Indian spy agency’s foreign handlers.
Sources claimed that the accused confessed to being approached through social media platforms, where they were lured with offers of money and contact with women.
Payments were said to have been transferred through digital channels, including mobile wallets, cryptocurrency accounts and bank transactions.
Sources further stated that the suspects remained in continuous contact with individuals linked to India’s intelligence network through online communication.
Legal proceedings were initiated against them under the Official Secrets Act [of Pakistan], and they were subsequently convicted following due process.
Security authorities said they remain vigilant against both internal and external threats, stressing that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to safeguard national security.
Defence analysts warned that foreign intelligence agencies are increasingly using social media tactics, including financial incentives and deceptive relationships, to exploit vulnerable individuals for illicit purposes.
They urged the public to exercise caution while interacting online and to remain aware of potential risks.
The development follows earlier high-profile espionage cases, including that of RAW’s Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was arrested in 2016 and later sentenced by a military court on charges of espionage and terrorism. His case remains subject to legal review following proceedings at the International Court of Justice.
