Imran Khan’s legal documents missing in Adiala Jail records, lawyer says authorities wasting time

A legal controversy has emerged at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, regarding the signing of legal documents related to the jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, who is also founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Lawyer for the PTI founder, Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry, said he returned empty-handed for the third time on Monday after visiting the jail to get the necessary documents signed. He stated that despite waiting for three hours, he was informed that the documents could not be located in the office records.

According to Chaudhry, the legal documents were dispatched to the superintendent of Adiala Jail on April 7 through a courier service. He added that online tracking records show the documents were delivered to the jail at 3:15 pm on April 9.

The lawyer alleged that jail authorities were “maliciously wasting time” to delay the filing of the PTI founder’s appeal. He maintained that due to these tactics, the appeal could not be filed within the stipulated deadline.

Chaudhry further said that Imran Khan was being deprived of his fundamental right to access justice. He announced that, as a consequence of the situation, no new cases would be filed in courts by the PTI founder.

No official response from jail authorities has been issued regarding the allegations so far.
