ICC announces record prize pool for Women’s T20 World Cup 2026

In a landmark move for women’s cricket, the International Cricket Council has announced a record-breaking prize pool for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, signaling the sport’s rapid global growth and rising commercial value.

The total prize fund for the tournament has been set at an impressive $8.76 million, marking a 10 percent increase from the previous edition in 2024. This significant boost not only reflects the increasing popularity of women’s cricket but also highlights the governing body’s commitment to investing in the women’s game.

For the first time in the tournament’s history, the competition will feature 12 teams, expanding opportunities for emerging cricketing nations to compete on the global stage. The new format aims to make the tournament more competitive and inclusive, further strengthening the sport’s international footprint.

Under the revised prize structure, the champions will receive a staggering $2.34 million, while the runners-up will take home $1.17 million. Both losing semi-finalists are set to earn $675,000 each, ensuring substantial rewards even for teams that fall short of the final. Additionally, every group-stage victory will be worth over $31,000, while all participating teams are guaranteed a minimum payout of $247,500.

ICC Chief Executive Sanjog Gupta described the announcement as a defining moment for women’s cricket. He emphasised that the expansion and financial growth reflect the increasing influence of female athletes and the sport’s accelerating global appeal.

“The growth of women’s cricket continues to gather pace,” Gupta noted, adding that increased investment and broader participation are key to building a stronger and more competitive global ecosystem.

Adding to the excitement, the ICC also launched the official trophy tour in London, where the iconic silverware was showcased at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground. A stunning visual projection on the pavilion marked the beginning of a journey that will take the trophy across Europe, including stops in the Netherlands, Ireland, and Scotland, before heading to host cities across England.

With bigger rewards, more teams, and growing global attention, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is shaping up to be a defining chapter in the evolution of women’s cricket—one that promises excitement, opportunity, and a powerful statement about the future of the game.
