T20 World Cup: ICC events team members express doubts over travelling to India

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is confident to host the T20 World Cup, however, the current COVID-19 surge in the country has created a huge doubt of hosting the marquee competition in India.

According to Sportstar, a couple of full members of the International Cricket Council have expressed reservations about traveling to India given the severity of the pandemic at the moment.

ICC events and logistics team is scheduled to travel to India later this month to conduct recce at a few venues. However, the deadly second wave could postpone the visit.

Meanwhile, a BCCI official told the publication that even if the visit doesn’t go as plan, BCCI is confident that the ICC annual conference in June will erase all the doubts.

On the other hand, a couple of member boards seem to be in favor of the event being awarded to Australia, who is scheduled to stage the next year’s T20 World Cup.

Remember, Australia was scheduled to host T20 World Cup last year but ICC shifted the event to 2022.
