LAHORE: The Punjab government on Tuesday imposed Section 144 in several districts, including Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, and Mianwali, ahead of a planned rally by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in southern Punjab.
Imposition of Section 144 in Punjab challenged in LHC
The government’s imposition of Section 144 in Punjab in the light of PTI’s protest call has been challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC), as the Imran Khan-founded party gears up for demonstrations in three cities of the province.
The petition filed by a citizen states that the provincial government imposed Section 144 in order to suppress the PTI supporters from staging protests, which is a constitutional right of every Pakistani citizen.
It moved the court to declare the notification of the Section 144 null and void.
PTI’s behaviour not ‘political’: Rana Sanaullah
Prime Minister’s Advisor on Public and Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) behaviour is “not political”.
“PTI didn’t maintain a posture [as a polititical party], neither in the government nor in the opposition,” the former federal minister said while slamming the former ruling party for organising long marches and sit ins.
While speaking in Geo News’ programme ‘Geo Pakistan’, hee said that PTI wants “anarchy, violence and unrest” in the country and it is important for the law and democracy to stop the party.
Sanaullah went on to say that the Imran Khan-founded party is not willing to accept or sit with anyone else.
“PTI will not adopt a democratic behaviour under any circumstance, which is not acceptable,” he added.
