Punjab University student killed in shooting incident ‘on campus’

LAHORE: A Punjab University student was killed in a shooting incident at Punjab University, and subsequently, a student organization staged a sit-in outside the Punjab University.

Following the incident, the traffic was jammed on Canal Road, Barkat Market, and surrounding roads.

The student organization allegedly attacked the Punjab University admin block and started vandalism including ransacking flower pots and doors.

The injured youth was shifted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital emergency but the victim expired upon reaching the hospital.

PU spokesperson stance 

PU spokesperson said that the incident did not take place within the boundaries of Punjab University and claimed the student organization was spreading rumors and false news.

The spokesperson of the Sheikh Zayed Hospital said that the body was handed over to the police.

“The body will be shifted to the morgue for postmortem,” Sheikh Zayed Hospital said.

The student organization University said the injured student belonged to the sociology department.

The situation remained tense at Punjab University.

Sheikh Zaid Hospital said three bullets hit the 22-year-old victim in the chest, stomach, and leg.

The doctors said they tried to save the young man but he could not be saved. The victim was shifted to the operation theatre where he died.

As per reports, the student’s name was Rana Ammar Akhter, a student of Gender Studies who hailed from Kasur.
