James Gunn recently joked about Ryan Reynolds returning to the DC universe.
The director of Guardians of the Galaxy and upcoming Superman movie jokingly asked Reynolds if he would return to DC to play Hal Jordan role from his 2011 Green Lantern.
Speaking during his interview on the Happy Sad and Confused podcast, Gunn revealed that Reynolds was one of the first people he reached out for being named co-head of DC Studios.
“Ryan doesn’t give a shit. One of the first people I talked to after I got the job [at DC] was Ryan Reynold,” Gunn said. He added, “I was like, ‘You coming back?!’ He’s like, ‘Get the f— out of here!'”
However, both Gunn and Reynolds are thriving in their respective superhero roles.
Gunn is working on a Green Lantern series called Lanterns, set to premiere on HBO Max.
Meanwhile, Reynolds is still enjoying the success with his Deadpool franchise. Deadpool and Wolverine was a major hit, bringing back Hugh Jackman alongside Reynolds and marking a new chapter in Marvel’s X-Men universe.
