President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening parliamentary institutions and safeguarding democratic values in Pakistan.
In their separate messages on the International Day of Parliamentarism, observed on Monday, both leaders pledged to uphold the principles of democracy, freedom, inclusivity, tolerance, and socio-economic justice.
President Zardari emphasized that effective legislation and parliamentary oversight can significantly improve public service delivery, strengthen governance, and reinforce democratic institutions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, underscored the central role of Parliament in Pakistan’s democratic structure, highlighting its responsibility in ensuring accountability, transparency, gender equality, and social protection.
Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, also marked the occasion by stating that parliamentary supremacy is vital for the stability of the democratic system. He noted that a functional, transparent, and effective parliament truly represents the voice of the people and plays a pivotal role in reinforcing democracy.
The Speaker further emphasized that Pakistan’s Parliament will continue to actively engage with the Inter-Parliamentary Union to promote global peace, democracy, and sustainable development goals.
