A new ‘Ratchet & Clank’ game has been announced, though it is not a PS5 adventure.
According to the IGN, titled ‘Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble’, the game is set to release on mobile platforms in the near future. Ranger Rumble is described as ‘a fast-paced multiplayer platformer arena shooter’ and is developed by French mobile studio Oh BiBi. A new trailer reveals that players can control various Ratchet & Clank characters, including Ratchet himself, across multiple game modes.
These included a traditional arena shooter mode called Total Rumble, a soccer-like Blast Ball, and Bolt Rush, which involves collecting bolts.
The game is set in a simulation created by Captain Qwark and features heroes ‘from across the galaxy and time’ competing in teams. Players can join random groups solo or team up with friends online. Few additional details about gameplay have been revealed.
The announcement may disappoint fans hoping for a larger-scale follow-up to Rift Apart, released in 2021, which was praised as ‘a fantastic PS5 exclusive showpiece for the console’s power, and a delightful adventure in its own right’ (9/10). The franchise has been largely silent since then, and anticipation for another major release has been high.
For now, fans will have Ranger Rumble, which will be available at an unspecified date. Pre-registrations are currently open on the official website.
