Karan Johar’s Homebound misses out on Oscar contention

“Being among the final 15 shortlisted films is an honour by itself.”

The run for the Oscars for acclaimed Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar’s Homebound ended with the announcement of the final nominations.
Indian media outlets reported that, after the 98th Academy Awards nominations were revealed, attention was focused on whether the country’s official submission had secured a place on the final list.
Those hopes were disappointed when the Covid era social drama did not receive a nomination in the Best International Feature Film category.
Despite Homebound being eliminated from the Oscar competition, Karan Johar said he remains proud of the film and used an Instagram post to thank its director, Neeraj Ghaywan.
Director Neeraj Ghaywan likewise posted on Instagram, expressing gratitude to Karan Johar and noting that Johar had been a strong pillar of support and that reaching this milestone would not have been possible without him.
It should be noted that Homebound was directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and features Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor in leading roles.
Consequently, Karan Johar used his Instagram stories to laud Neeraj Ghaywan. In a short but touching message, the director of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani wrote:
In an interview, the film’s lead actor Vishal Jethwa said that Homebound’s journey to this point and the opportunity to represent India internationally has been very meaningful to him and that simply being shortlisted among the final 15 films is itself a great honour.
