Rs50 billion development plan to upgrade Rawalpindi

The Punjab government has launched a major development plan worth over Rs50 billion to improve Rawalpindi. The plan aims to finish ongoing projects and start new ones during 2026. A special system has been set up to check daily progress, and regular updates are sent to the Chief Minister to make sure work is completed on time.

The plan mainly focuses on better roads, clean water, and healthcare. Several road projects were completed last year, including flyovers and underpasses at busy areas, which helped reduce traffic problems.
Work is currently going on at Katchery Chowk, where two flyovers and three underpasses are being built. This project is expected to finish by April. On Peshawar Road, three new underpasses will be built starting in February and completed by May.
Once these projects are completed, there will be a signal-free road from Katchery Chowk to Chungi 26 Motorway Chowk. This will make travel easier for people going to Islamabad, Airport and other cities through the motorway.
The Rawalpindi Development Authority has also planned to widen Murree Road, build four parking plazas, and construct a new underpass on Ninth Avenue to improve traffic flow between Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Some housing areas will also be beautified and upgraded.
The Rawalpindi Ring Road project is almost complete, with 80 percent work done, and is expected to be finished by March 2026. A new flyover at Ammar Shaheed Chowk is also being planned.
Public transport will improve as well. The Green Electric Bus Service will be expanded across the district, with 87 electric buses connecting all tehsil headquarters.
In the health sector, hospitals are being inspected, and five hospitals will be upgraded in stages to provide better treatment facilities.
Water supply projects are also in progress. More water will be provided from Rawal, Khanpur, and Daducha dams. Funds have also been approved to improve water treatment plants and pipelines.
This development plan is expected to greatly improve daily life in Rawalpindi by providing better roads, transport, healthcare, and water facilities.
