Senate, National Assembly sessions summoned on Monday

Both Houses of the Parliament – Senate and National Assembly – have been summoned to meet in Islamabad on Monday evening, it was reported on Saturday, quoting parliamentary sources.

President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned the National Assembly session on Monday at 5:00 pm.

It will be the 24th session of the current National Assembly.

The Senate session will begin at 4:00 pm, the parliamentary sources said.

Amendments in NAB laws

Senator Mohammad Abdul Qadir submitted important amendments in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) laws relating to Sections 5, 6, and 7.

These amendments included an extension in the service tenure of the NAB chairman.

To authorize NAB to probe corruption cases involving Rs50 crore instead of R30 crore. As per the proposed amendments, appeals against the verdicts will be challenged in the Federal Constitutional Court.

The current service tenure of the chairman and deputy chairman is non-extendable. The government will obtain approval of these amendments in the upcoming Senate session, which will be held next week.
